Since rules and restrictions vary depending on the type of cells or batteries to be transported, we offer two different courses.

Transportation of Exempted Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries (all modes of transport)

and Transportation of Fully Regulated Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries (all modes of transport) .

Which training is right for you depends entirely on what types of batteries you handle.

Transportation of Exempted Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries (all modes of transport)

For those of you who only handle cells or batteries within the limitations specified below and which in the various regulations are referred to as Section II (aviation) and Special Provision 188 (road & sea).

NOTE: This training does not apply to "loose" batteries when transported by air. Loose batteries refer to batteries

that are not installed in equipment or packaged with equipment.

If you handle such batteries, you are instead covered by the training:

Transportation of Fully Regulated Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries.

Transportation of Fully Regulated Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries (all modes of transport)

For those who handle cells or batteries within the limitations specified below and

which in the various regulations are referred to as Section IA & IB (air), Fully regulated (road & sea),

and exempt Lithium and sodium ion cells and batteries.

The training also includes handling of:

  • Damaged or defective batteries
  • Prototypes
  • Batteries intended for recycling

Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries loose (non-aviation), packed with equipment and in equipment:

Lithium and sodium ion cells/batteries loose, packed with equipment and in equipment:

Lithium metal cells ≤ 1 g lithium

Lithium metal cells > 1 g lithium

Lithium metal batteries (Lithium metal batteries) ≤ 2 g lithium

Lithium metal batteries (Lithium metal batteries) > 2 g lithium

Lithium ion cells (Lithium ion cells) ≤ 20 Wh

Lithium ion cells (Lithium ion cells) > 20 Wh

Lithium ion batteries ≤ 100 Wh

Lithium ion batteries > 100Wh

Sodium ion cells (Sodium ion cells) ≤ 20 Wh

Sodium ion cells (Sodium ion cells) > 20 Wh

Sodium ion batteries (Sodium ion batteries) ≤ 100 Wh

Sodium ion batteries (Sodium ion batteries) > 100Wh
